Save money, shut down congress for a season.

One way that no one want’s to bring up of the USA to save money, is by shutting down Congress for a season. Lock up the Hill and Turn the lights out. Why should members and their staff’s be exempt from lay offs? What’s the worst that can happen? By them being there, they just screw up the Government more then it already is. How many more new laws do we really need? Other then to balance the budget? Lets face it we have laws on the books that are not enforced, just look at the number of of illegal aliens we have in our country right now. Hello anyone home? that’s one law that should be enforced, yet sadly they do nothing. The rammed through a spending bill of 787 Billion dollars without even reading it. Yet these are the type of people we want to allow to keep working? Before anyone jumps up and says Bush started the spending spree, please point out something we all do not know. Also explain how because one party started it, that it makes it good for another party to keep doing it..

We as a country owe so much money that I fear we will never get out from under it all.

Read a great article over at The Whiskey and Gunpowder, one part that grabbed me and scared me to be honest was this;

Politics is about what works,” someone once said. Someone said it…someone who is an imbecile. Politics is not about what works, it’s about what you can get away with. And what you can get away with is often exactly what doesn’t work at all.

Seems that most if not all of our elected officials feel this way. My Congressional Representative is Steny Hoyer, on his website He has a poll up, and one of the questions he asks is; Do you believe reforming America’s health care system should be a top priority? 75.1% have voted no. For this poll you have to enter in your 9 digit zip code. Yet he keeps pushing his parties agenda instead of the people who sent him to office. Why? Because he knows he will get away with it. No worries with the census being run out of the White House this time, if he is in danger of losing his seat they will just redraw the district lines.

Its a very sad time in our country’s history, when our Government is no longer looking out for We the People, but looking out for themselves. When was the last time a member of Congress was forced to skip a meal because of lack of funds? Or forced to tell their kids that they are going to have to cut back on their cell phone usage? You and I may have had to do these things, but not our Ruling class. Yes it’s time we woke up and understand that we do in fact have a ruling class.

Lets get back to a very simple forum of Government that our Founding Fathers set up. If we don’t do it now, it will be to late.

Another part that grabbed me from the article,
Governments are essentially parasites on productive activity. So the best governments are the smallest – meaning, the least parasitic. As has been said before, “That government is best which governs least.”
