Reconciliation is a procedure under the Congressional Budget Act of 1974 by which Congress implements budget resolution policies affecting mainly permanent spending and revenue programs. The principal focus in the reconciliation process has been deficit reduction, but in some years reconciliation has involved revenue reduction generally and spending increases in selected areas.
It was never intended to be used the way the Senators are thinking of using it now. For passing the health care reform bill being considered in the Senate. I get the impression that Congress no longer cares what We the People think. Those that think that because President Obama won the election, and the Democrats took control of both houses of Congress, that it gives them the right not to listen to the Country. The independents where the ones who gave them the elections. Its the independents who have changed there minds, or rather I should say they never thought they would go so far.
What would be so bad about posting the bill on line for 72 hours? However only one Democrat voted for doing so today, Senator Lincoln was the only Democrat to side with the GOP on an amendment that would have required legislative language to be available online 72 hours ahead of committee action on the health overhaul bill. That amendment failed 12-11, underscoring the delicacy of Baucus’ narrow majority in the committee made up of 13 Democrats and 10 Republicans.
Next the Federal Government is now investigating Humana (one of many insurance company’s) for sending a letter out to there customers about the health care reform bill, explaining to them what they think will happen, after all they should be the experts. Here is part of what they sent,
