Lets face it We are in a fight for our way of life. Not just in Afghanistan or Iraq, but through out the world. Its not just about who has the best Armed Forces, its about how we wish our Children’s children to grow up. America was founded on religious tolerance, but make no mistake it was Founded as a Christian nation. President Bush and now President Obama understand the type of war we are in, Bush did not know how to get the American People to stand firm behind him, President Obama does not think that War is the answer. While no sane person wants a war, when someone or something declares war on you, the only thing you can do if you wish to win, is win at any cost. Now do we need to physically torture someone? I can honestly say I don’t know, having spoken with and corresponded with a few Military men and women, they think that it is seldom necessary but at times can yield results that we might not have gotten. Is it worth it to order our Young Men and Women to do this to another human? IMO NO! However I am only one person, at times I catch myself saying we should string that person up by his private parts, While I say that in anger part of me thinks it would be just.
In order for us to win this war we are in we must make it to costly in terms of human lives to continue, at least that’s what my Western Mind is telling me. Lets look at the other side of the coin, from what we believe that all lives are sacred to what the extremist we are fighting believe. They do not value life the way we do, so in fighting them we must come up with a plan that hurts them, and those that support them. What that is I am not sure of, I do know that the way we are doing it now is not going to end this War. We may bring our Armed Forces home, with a win, that we declare, and if we look at the battles it will support our Politicians claims of a victory. The big problem with this is that nothing will have changed, America will still be viewed by some as the Great Satan.
Why do they see us as the Great Satan? A big part of that is indirectly our fault, when I say our I mean the entire Western World that buys oil from the Middle East. We have made the rulers of those Country’s rich, while few of those rulers allow the money to go to the people in a meaningful way. So when you have a country that is mostly in poverty and the ruling class that is loaded with money, the Rulers need someone to blame. Who gets the blame for the wealth not being spread around? The Western World. Everything that can be blamed on us is.
While I don’t know a way around us from buying oil that would not crush our economy, we should slowly (very slowly) start to move off oil. Not because of the price nor because of what some believe about “global warming” but to allow the house of cards that these rulers have built come crumbling down on them.
If we do not, We will be in a Holy War till one side or the other gives up.
