What Happened Americans ?

Tonight while I sat in Church, I started thinking about what happened to us all. Now in my case I know I stayed drunk for a good portion of my adult life, while that is no excuse, it did tend to keep me pretty far from reality. We as a Nation have become the feel good now Nation. Meaning if it feels good, do it. Now we are not the first Nation to slide into this state, Rome did it and look at Rome now. Oh wait its no longer a Nation. Which sadly is the direction we are heading. While this may seem hard to believe, it is in fact the direction we are headed. Now I am not saying we can’t get back on the right track however I am saying that We must do so now. We need to develop a sense of urgency to get things done. Not latter, not when it will be easier, but now. After all, the only easy day was yesterday.

Lets look at President Obama, and how he got elected. First he was a breath of fresh air, the things he said hit home with a lot of us, the idea of change sounded good, hope sounded good, however We the American people did not due our part in finding out exactly what he stood for. Its not his fault he did not come right out and say what his true vision was while on the campaign trail. However he did write a few books, he did do a lot of interviews before he decided to run for President. Had we done our due diligence we would have found out that he is just like any other Politician, saying what he needs to, in order to get elected. He or his campaign manager figured out what We the People where and still are hungry for, and that is the return of an honest person with integrity, who will walk the walk instead of just talking the talk. We are starved for someone to show us the way. While President Obama has only been in office for a little under a year, its plain to just about anyone who takes an honest look at Him, that he is just another Politician. Nothing great or special about him, he is no different then any of the other Politicians that ran last year.

But I am getting off track this is not about President Obama, after all he is just one person, we can’t lay the blame on him anymore then we can lay the blame on President Bush. The fault lies with you and I. That’s right, you and I. Why is it our fault? Simple, We allowed our States get away with doing things that we would not allow to happen in our Homes. In turn our elected State officials allowed the Federal Government to do things that only our States should be doing. A prime example is the argument over the pledge of Allegiance. Now there is no one who can say I am not for free speech and for individual rights. However in my home you follow the rules that are laid down. Its very simple, just because you think something should be said or not said does not give you the right to prevent other from saying it or not saying it. While I may be wording that poorly, the point is saying ,I pledge allegiance under God is not hurting you, nor do you have to say those words, however if 77% (yes I made the % up)wish to be allowed to say it, who are you, as one person to deny those other people their rights? After all just hearing the word God should not hurt you, and to be honest if it does then you have bigger problems with your life then hearing that said. How does this tie in to the feel good nation that we have become? It shows that we have allowed common sense to be kicked to the curb. This type of case and others like them should have never taken up anytime in our court systems.

What I think we are all looking for is someone to show us the way to act. Not tell us, but to live their life as an example for us to follow. If we followed, and many of us did, in Congress’s footsteps with our spending, many of us are and will be filing for bankruptcy. If making the tough calls, those that our not popular is not going to happen in Congress nor by the President then we need to toss those that are holding these offices out and find Men and Women who will do what’s right for our Nation.

This does not mean passing a health care bill that is supposed to be about reform, but in fact reforms very little, and goes as far as keeping Washington the same old same old, when a vote can and does get bought.

This does not mean passing a cap-n-trade bill that hurts American citizens.

One thing that President Bush will always have my respect for is his stance on stem cell research, I am not talking about the issue in the terms of right or wrong, I am talking about him sticking to what he believes in. It would have been much easier for him to cave to what more the 50% of the population wanted, however he was not that type of man. Keep in mind during this debate his approval rating could have been improved upon, however he did not govern that way.

I hear family members and friends say that don’t have time to get involved in the issues of the day, my response to them is when will you have the time? These things that are going on in our communities are not going to go away, and if we don’t start paying attention to them they will only get worse.

We need to come together as a nation and decide what is going to define us, where will we be 20 years from now, will we still allow Congress to carry a deficit? One that would send us running to the nearest bankruptcy court, or will we stand up and say enough is enough? Will we still allow a defense bill to be loaded with items that have nothing to do with defense? Will we demand Congress passes laws that any lay person can read and understand? Will we follow the rule of common sense or follow the gibberish allowing the loop holes that where never intended to be in the laws apply as laws? Its up to us to decide what will become of our Nation. Its time we stopped allowing the extremist from both sides rule our Nation. Lets get back to the basic’s of Government, so we can get back to the basic’s of life.
