A year in Review (Lawmakers and the Executive branch)

First thing done was pass the stimulus bill, was it needed? did it work? Those questions are debatable, depending on who you talk to and how they judge it.

In Afghanistan we allowed President Obama to drag his feet on deciding what to do. I feel that we have not done enough for our Troops nor have we backed our Commanders there. 4 Months and counting for answering a request from His hand picked General.

Health Care, passed in the House by only a few votes, it now sits in the Senate, its fate as is, dead in the water. Granted they are at the debate status now, however abortion is a huge issue and the public option is another huge issue. Both the Progressive and the Blue dogs are at odds between these two. I doubt as it is now there will be any Republicans voting for it. Notice I did not call this bill reform? The reason is simple, it is not reform, it does not make anything better. Unless you don’t have insurance, and don’t mind getting it and then having to wait once you get Government run insurance. I said wait, no I am not trying to scar anyone, just running the numbers. Add 30 million people into the loop and you lose or at best don’t add any new Doctors. Your going to have a wait to get to see one. I have to wait to set an appointment with my primary care physician.

Cap-n-Tax, passed in the house, yet has not been scheduled for all the 5 committees yet, which it has to be in order for it to be brought to the floor. Keep in mind, that we now have leaked or hacked data that points to the Climate Scientist forging or "adjusting"the data to fit their needs. We will have to see how that plays out.

Unemployment which is or was said to be tied to the stimulus bill, is in the double digits. In Michigan the number is 15.1% per the NY Times

Gitmo will still be open come January 20th 2010, however in fairness to President Obama when he was running for President he was a Junior Senator, Junior Senators are rarely if ever included in top secret briefings from the Executive branch, so this is something he campaigned on but really did not know enough about. I would have to give him an A for his efforts. However few people want them housed in their local jail.

In a lot of ways I feel bad for President Obama, since I really don’t think he understood the level of selfishness that was in his own party. From the Progressives to the Blue Dogs, no matter which way he goes one side of his party is going to be upset. I really think other then cap-n-trade and the health bill, he has tried to govern from the middle. However his own party has made that impossible since he is stuck trying to govern from the middle of his party instead of from the middle of both parties.

One the world stage we have been seen as an embarrassment, Presidents of the USA do not bow to anyone other then the Holy Father. President Obama has done so twice. Now I know He thinks he is improving our relations with the world, but the fact is when the President of France has less tolerance for Nations that try to bully others then a USA President does, you know we have problems. Then look He backed the ousted President of Honduras, who was legally ousted by the Military, on orders from their Congress, because he violated there Constitution,a dictator was not put in charge and they had peaceful elections over the weekend.
